I'll take obscure eighties music for 500 Alex.....

Happy New Year! May this year be filled with joy, laughter and all those things that make life fun and a little unpredictable.
On the fun side, I've just spent an evening reconnecting with my inner DJ. Remember when making a mix tape was a gesture of true friendship? Remember when it meant actually spinning vinyl on a turntable, pausing the tape recorder at just the correct moment, leaving enough of a break in between songs to actually mimic the amount of time in between tracks on a LP?
I'm such a geek.....
I found this turntable at Goodwill today, - just like the one I'd been eying for the last couple of years. Instead of $150 to $200, it cost a mere $30. Pretty good sound too.
I know because I extensively tested it - at least that was how I justified pulling out the box containing what's left of my vinyl collection. It's modest, it's obscure, it's pure bubblegum in places, but that's ok. We giggled our way through The Bangles, Max Headroom & The Art of Noise, The Pet Shop Boys, and assorted 80s dance music.
For a break in between the 45's Annika shared Firesign Theater's "The Tale of the Giant Rat of Sumatra" - for anyone who doesn't know Firesign Theater, think an American version of Monty Python, with lots of caffeine and really bad puns.
So a girls night in, just the four of us, with a healthy dose of laughter and joy.
